You may know that a few weeks ago was World Book Day - a global celebration of all things to do with books! Many schools, including my own, build an entire week around this day as an opportunity to focus on particular authors, illustrators, genres; it even gives us the opportunity to dust off the fancy dress costumes and face paints and dress as our favourite book character!
Now, during the weekend leading up to Book Week, I happened to be moping about indoors, feeling a bit under-the-weather and partaking in one of my favourite pastimes - twitter stalking! Whilst scanning down the screen (full of uberfacts, bible quotes and random tweets from people I must have followed because they followed me) I happened to come across a tweet from one of my heroes, JK Rowling.
And so, inspiration hit me - I was going to send her a tweet! I didn't want to come across as one of those Harry-Potter-obsessed stalkers (!) so I put my teacher hat on and sent the following:
@jk_rowling do you have any advice for my Y6 pupils about writing, as we approach Book Week 2015? TIA! Mrs V x
And I waited...and while I waited I thought to myself, "Hang on a minute, there are other authors on twitter!" So, I found them and sent them the same tweet! If I'm honest, I didn't expect any responses but I kept my fingers crossed that I'd have something exciting to take back to my class in Book Week!
Oh my goodness - I can't explain my excitement when my phone pinged with a twitter notification...I'd had a reply from Anthony Horowitz! And then so many others! I've popped them all in a slideshow below!
We posted them around school during Book Week and the children were so excited to find them and read what 'real-life' authors had tweeted to them! The best afternoon of twitter stalking I've ever had!
By the way...JK Rowling never responded...
And I am one of those Harry-Potter-obsessed stalkers!
